So Maria and I, on the first day of my visit, bought a ticket for the bus. When our bus finally arrived, only the door that leads directly to the bus driver opened. Since I am from Thessaloniki I got a little weirded out since we are not used to get into the bus from that particular door. Alternatively we use any other door! But since I saw everyone else getting on from there, I followed. Maria was a little behind me. So I try to walk past the driver towards the back of the vehicle with the ticket in my hand when suddenly I hear:
"Eh! The driver is over here! You're gonna be looking for me in the back afterwards!"
It was the driver talking (rather yelling) to me! It was then that I realised everyone was handing their tickets to him. Embarrassed as I was, I headed to the driver and gave him my ticket. I was so confused that I didn't understand when he said "Hold the one end". I just gave him the ticket. And he took it! As I was standing still trying to understand what was happening and why, Maria was telling me to come with her at the back.
"But he's got my ticket!" I said.
"Hey girl! Here, take a clipping to have!"
I took the clipping and I observed that everyone else except for me was aware that the driver rips the ticket in half. I was laughing so hard about myself when I reached Maria. That was a completely new and unexpected way for me to validate a bus ticket! I was literally feeling like an alien!
